Tam And Dex

Dex had made plans to meet the twins in Atlantis for a slice of mallowmelt but when he arrived it was just Tam waiting for him at the gate. 

Tam lied to Dex just to make him come so they could talk. 

“I hope you know why it’s just me here.” Tam said when they sat down at a table.

“Yeah.” Dex says awkwardly. 

“Good” Tam smiles at his uneasiness, “Just so you know, you need to be  a responsible man if you have a chance to stay with my sister.”

Dex stares at Tam, “I can’t believe you’re dating Biana.”

He shakes his head “Neither can I.”

 3 girls sit at the table next to them. One has long black hair, the other 2 are a brunette and a blonde. They start talking about whatever.

“So…………………… your basically just talking about how I need to be myself.” Dex said eyeing the girls. He leaned over and whispered, “Don't they look familiar?”

Tam looked over there were only 2 girls at the table now. Where did the 3rd one go? He looked around. 

“Not really.” he said. 

“That's because we don't look the same,” a voice said. 

Biana appeared in the empty seat and Linh and Sophie turned around.

“We decided to eavesdrop.” Linh said.

Dex stared at them. Something was off. Something was really off.

Then it hit him.

“WAIT! YOU DYED YOUR HAIR!” He was surprised.

Sophie had a light purple streak in the front of her hair and at the bottom was the same shade. Biana had made her hair look like flames. She had bright orange in her hair. But Linh hadn't done anything.  

“I wasn't sure if you would get mad at me.” She said to Tam.

“Oh, go have fun.” He says.

“Oh, I’m perfectly comfortable where I am.”

Biana slid into the empty seat next to Tam. Linh sat next to Dex, Tam narrowed his silver eyes. Sophie sat down on the other side of Dex.

“You were saying?”  Biana said tossing her hair flirtily and winking at Tam 

Tam smiled softly and gently tugged on Biana’s hair before regaining his composure and glaring at Dex again.

“You make my sister cry, well we will see who will be crying harder when I’m done with you.”

Dex squirmed in his seat and Sophie jokingly punched him in the arm Lhin however rolled her eyes 

“Now that you are doing terrorizing my boyfriend.” she said emphasizing the last word.

“May I have him back now?” 

Tam scowled but didn’t say anything.

Dex whispered a quick thank you to Lhin and jumped up.

As they were walking out of the shop Dex grabbed Linh’s hand.

This made Tam stand up slightly, but Biana hauled him back down.

Sophie just tagged along behind everyone.  And Linh got the feeling she felt left out.

“So where's your boyfriend today?” she asked 

Sophie smiled, “Oh you know. Getting on peoples nerves, pulling pranks, making me very angry.” she shrugged, “The usual.”

“Really?” Dex asked. 

Sophie nods. 

“Is that why he's not here?” Tam asks

“No he…… yeah I guess”  Sophie thinks about it. 

“What did he do?” Biana asked 

Sophie starts laughing, “Well, he was talking about getting a job here in Atlantis and Grady was like, ‘You don't need to go to Atlantis to get a job. You can give Verdi a bath.’ And then he was like ‘But isn't that Foster’s job?’ and I  was like, ‘Well it doesn't have to be if you would just suck it up and do it!’ and then he was like, ‘Wow Foster calm down. Are you OK?’ And I was kinda having a bad day so I was grumpy. . . and yeah. . . .” 

Linh and Biana look at Sophie and it was like they could read minds. They all shared that look that meant something to girls. And the look that means nothing to boys.  

Tam looked behind him, “We are being followed by  people who are giving me the creeps.”

Sophie looked around to see who Tam was talking about and gasped. Not because she could see their faces, but because she couldn't

She leaned in next to Tam and whispered.     

“Take Dex and Lhin and hide them with your shadows down the alley and circle back to the shop on the right.”

“What about Biana?” He whispered anxiously.

“She’ll hide with me, I’ll meet you there in 5 minutes then she slipped of her glove and grabbed Biana’s hand and then with a gasp they both disappeared.

Tam nodded and started walking down the alley Sophie dragged Biana along the opposite alley after she was sure that they hadn’t seen her.

“What is it?” Bianna asked 

“Shh I’ll tell you when we get inside.”
A moment later they slipped inside a brightly colored shop and smacked right into Keefe, who was standing with Fitz.

They shoved him aside and he let out a gasp.

“Sophie??” he said when they reappeared, “What is it?” 

“The Neverseen are right outside.”
His face completely drained of color and then the door burst open, which caused him to jump in front of Sophie.

The door quickly slammed shut revealing Tam, Lhin, and Dex ….    

“Everyone be quiet!” Sophie whisper hissed when she saw their shadows closeby. 

They all seemed to be holding their breath, and while they waited, everyone in the shop stared at them. But they didn't care they just prayed that the monsters that were hunting them were gone. 

Everyone hold on to Biana. I'm going to enhance her and we can hopefully get out of here without a visit to the healing center. Sophie transmitted to everyone.

They all reached for Biana and just like that there was nobody there. They opened the door and ran out quickly the Neverseen were waiting for them.

“Really Sophie. You need to be more careful next time” A voice that was sickenly familiar came out of one of the black capes

Nobody said anything.

“Oh come on. I know you’re there” 

A hand reached out of another cloak and tried to fry them. That blew their cover. 

They all jumped in different directions making everyone but Biana visible.

“Don't you remember the last time we fought in Atlantis?” Sophie asked. 

“Oh yes, I do. I will never forget it.” Lady Gisela says pulling back her hood.

Inside Sophie's mind her head was screaming “what do I do? What do I do? What do I do?” Over and over again.

“What do you want?” Keefe said his voice breaking.

“I think you know who I want.”

Lady Gislea  said coldly 

“Fine.” Keefe said 

.

“If I come with you do you promise to leave Soph-everyone alone?”

“Not you, your sister, Marella.”

“You’ve proved not to matter.” He clenched his fists so hard his knuckles turned white.

She laughed, “This isn’t the Keefe show. You joined, then ran away. Besides, ‘I’m just your evil mother.’” She did a shocking imitation of his voice.

One tear slipped down Keefe’s nose and Sophie stood closer to him grabbing his hand.

His mother scoffed and rolled her eyes. “Honestly, you still need someone to hold your hand. Now, Where’s. Your. Sister? If you don’t answer, well, you Vanisher’s messed up. Kidnapping Sophie didn’t work out, but, your Hydrokinetic. . .”

Tam clenched his fists.

“Oooh, I think I made the right choice. Now, do I get the Hydrokinetic, or the Pyrokinetic. I’m warning you Keefe, I will get what I want.”

“Let us talk it over.” Linh said.

“What are you doing?” Biana squeaked. “We’ll hail Marella, tell her what’s going on, then tell Lady Gisela she’s at her house.”

“That won’t work.” Linh said. “But I’ll escape.”

“NO!” Keefe told her “You can’t go. I’ve done the exact same thing, it won’t work.”

“Oh, but you’re wrong, you joined for yourself, I’m doing it for my friends.” She hugged him, then Fitz, then Sophie, then Biana, the Tam, she clung to him a minute longer, then, finally, she kissed Dex, and walked over to Lady Gisela, who had been watching it all with a satisfied face. She grabbed Linh and said, 

“Now I get Linh and Marella.” she laughed and leaped away with Linh before anyone could react.  

Tam slumped down looking defeated and Keefe kicked the ground looking murderous .

“I can’t believe we even fell for any of her filthy tricks!”

Keefe stopped kicking the ground and started pulling his hair!!!

This worried Sophie even more than a foot injury.

 She stooped down next to Keefe who was sitting  on the ground and whispered, 

“Don’t worry, we’ll get them back.”

Bianna was trying to consol Tam as he sat there glaring at the place Lady Gisela had left one tear slipping down his face ignoring everybody Dex and Fitz both let themselves sit down. There was no one to make them feel better. After 10 minutes Sophie and Bianna coaxed the boys out of the street and just in time because a large carriage rushed down the street and whipped away the last of the footprints on the street hiding  any proof that she had ever been there except for four very broken boys.

“We should leave to get them. Right now!” Tam lectured. Biana stood up and placed a hand on his shoulder, he paused to give her a watery smile before turning to face Mr. Forkle. Fitz and Dex nodded their agreement. 

Mr. Forkle sighed. “You kids are so impatient.”

“ WE WOULDN'T BE IMPATIENT IF YOU WILL ACTUALLY LET US IN ON THINGS!” Sophie yelled.

“And just so you know, I know who my real parents are.” She added with no trace of guilt. Just anger, angry because she let her friend go without putting up a fight, angry  because she hated Me. Forkle because his comments.

“You are so. . . . . . . ARGH! I hate you! Okay! I HATE YOU! Do I need to tell you why?” She asked him

His silence was answer enough. Everyone was surprised at how angry Sophie had gotten. Nobody had seen her yell at Mr. Forkle. any adults. So this was a big surprise. 

The rest of the collective shows up behind him. Sophie walks up to Mr. Forkle.

“I hate you because you never tell us what we need to know WHEN we need it. You always wait till its too late to tell us. And you think that makes it ALL BETTER but news flash IT DOESN'T! Heck we broke the law millions of times for your stupid little club” she walks over to discized Juline, “I also really hate you and Lord Cassius. I think that speaks for itself, don't you?”

Everyone's  jaw drops. But Sophie ignores them.

“I hope what I told you guys will actually HELP in bad situations. I HOPE that you guys will actually do SOMETHING when we need you. AND I HOPE that all of you cowards, too afraid to show your actual faces, too afraid to tell us what we need to know when we need to know it. “ And with that she leaped home.
