I was thinking about Marella the other day and something struck me as odd... Why was her Mother (Caprice) trying to keep her away from Fintian and why did Caprice fall of the balcony well, What if Fintian is Marella's dad?
Think about it They both have blonde hair and they are both pyrotechnics and in Nightfall Fintian said something about Caprice trying to keep Marella away from Fintian and if Fintian shoved Caprice of the balcony Gethn could have planted new memories. Marella was what two?? she may have forgotten
She'd have forgoten I also think that when Caprice goes nuts that she's getting some of her memories back! It would explain a lot about Caprice she's a relativity small character, for now anyway!

I think Caprice was involve with either the Black Swan or the Neverseen. Then something happened and the Neverseen pushed her off the balcony. She knew it was dangerous and wanted her daughter to stay out of it. Although, your theory makes sense.
